Rating: 7

You may have remembered that Mang Rey was one of our friends’ highly recommended suppliers during his wedding day. Aside from that, our first meeting with him was smooth, and of course the prices are very reasonable.

Now to make our ratings in line with another attire supplier, we will also divide this into three categories: Design and Execution, Service, and Peso Power.

1. Design and Execution

When we first met with Mang Rey, he already provided us with samples of the barong fabrics and designs that we could choose from. As such, we were able to pick out the designs that we wanted. A few weeks later, he sent us the measurement guide, which was easy enough to follow.
Sometime around March, we met with him again to finalise all the details, and he was able to take the measurements of some of our entourage. And to our surprise, he messaged us around the second of week that the Barongs are ready for delivery, so we scheduled the week after since he has deliveries around the same area as well.

When we finally got all the Barongs – 2 for our Fathers, 1 for Ron’s Brother, 4 for the Entourage, and 2 for the Bearers, we immediately noticed that the pants are all black. We requested to having them wear brown ones, as we were avoiding black during our wedding day. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to have these changed because according to them there was nothing of that sort that we mentioned. :(

On the bright side, the barongs are made with quality and the designs are as expected. However, the camiso that came with the Fathers’ barongs, were not at all comfortable to wear (according to my father), and it was a bit hard to put on as they did not place buttons to open the top front for easy wearing.

2. Service

Our transaction with Mang Rey was smooth sailing, but not until the pants’ discussion. When we called him to check, he was quick to say that we did not mention anything to him and that “he even asked us what the color of the pants were” – to which if true, he should have noted that we wanted brown ones because I’m sure we will have the same answer - BROWN. Anyways, what irritated me most at that time was the way he answered us, saying that there is nothing more to do but to buy another set of pants for the whole lot. We know there are no delivery fees and other costs to it but, he could have been more understanding to offer us a discounted rate for the new set, but no. So we just decided to stick with the black pants because we did not want to spend anymore.

It was a small glitch, so we just decided to let it go.

3. Peso Power

Mang Rey was probably one of our most affordable suppliers. Aside from the fact that he does not charge delivery fees, his creations are really cheaper than others. We checked my father’s barong at the mall, and it was surprising to know that it is priced at Php 12,000! We paid one-third for two sets through Mang Rey. :)

Also, the quality that came with the price is really worth mentioning. My cousins, who were part of the entourage, were able to use them a few times already after our wedding and the quality hasn’t changed at all.

All in all, Mang Rey is still a recommended supplier – just make sure to keep everything well noted from your end. :)
