Supplier Rating 3: Queensland Catering Services

Caterer: Queensland Catering Services

Peso Power – 102, 700 for 200 guests

Rating: 8

QCS was not our top choice for caterers, but given the amount of budget that we had, they were the one we have chosen. The initial planning and discussion with them did cause us some stress due to the issue that they had with our chosen venue, which even at some point is a negative point for them. But, come wedding day, all went great! J

I’ll divide my review by 4 parts: Peso Power, Food, Styling, and Service.

1. Peso Power

As mentioned above, we only spent a little over a hundred thousand pesos for 200 guests. The rate mentioned, do not include yet the crew meals (will be providing a separate review for that). This was relatively cheaper than those we got used to seeing while we were on the hunt. Normally, it was around Php 150k for 150 guests (even lower than 150 pax). So seeing their package, it was definitely an advantage for them.  But of course, we had our doubts and worries, because of the said price. But after meeting with them and going through what was included, and what were not, we were able to decide favoring them. J The package already included premium food choices for a full set meal, coffee and tea, wedding amenities, and of course, styling. Keep in mind though, that the meals did not include cocktails (so we had to provide for them), and that the styling is in between basic and upgraded.

2. Food

Next is... Food, as this is the bigger factor. All the food they have served had earned raves and praises from our guests, though of course this will not please all. Some find their cuisine a bit too salty, while others would find it bland, but nonetheless, the quality of food was not at all compromised given the amount we had paid for. To add, my favorite dish would be the Baked Salmon, and Pita Bread (though quite honestly, I was only able to taste them after the wedding).

Their food (the left overs we took home) even lasted for days – a week even! No spoiled food was served, and the food was warm when served according to some of our guests.

3. Styling

As for the Styling, we opted for a minimalist style, and did not want a thematic setup because (1) we did not have the budget for it, and (2) we did not want our wedding to be too “costumy”.  And voila, we loved our set up, especially the couple’s place. The stage where the couple’s table was simple and clean – though I think without the photos we have provided it would have looked too bare. But still, I’m happy that we had that set up without incurring any additional costs. Haha! J

As for the VIP and guest tables, we still wanted to carry on the minimalist style. I originally wanted tall vases, but Ron wanted a different take. He said he wanted the guests to see each other, and be able to interact while eating or watching the program. So, we went ahead with lower vases, and came up with the design that we had. Also, since we wanted a “light” feel to it, they were able to suggest white table cloths with blue runners to give it that classic elegant look at no extra cost. And there it was a simple classic elegant set up for our guests.

4. Service

Now moving on to their Service. Quite honestly, I did not notice them at all. Haha! I did not even notice our AE, Ms. Evelyn, until the end of the reception. Hehe. But one comment I have heard about their service was the waiters’ poor knowledge of the food they serve. A friend asked one of the servers what the food was, and he could not answer her at all. My only concern on this topic is that, even if they are only serving the food, they should know what they are serving as guests might ask certain ingredients to the food because they might be allergic to it, and them not knowing could potentially harm them. I have personally witnessed one event where someone got allergic reaction because the waiter wasn’t able to tell her that there were ground shrimps mixed in the food (this was a different caterer). But other than this, I had been told that they were approachable, accommodating and attentive to our guests.

All in all, I give them an 8/10 rating as they are still a value for money kind of supplier. Happy client is who we are. J

Blessed,
